Letter from Fr Mark McManus 30th/31st May - Pentcost Sunday |
Dear Parishioners of St Joseph's & St Charles, |
The end of the Easter season is marked by the feast of Pentecost, which in turn heralds a short season of significant feasts – Trinity, Corpus Christi, Sacred Heart, Peter & Paul, etc.
Our Christian calendar is an important part of our identity and it is important that we try to keep a sense of its shape and relate it to our daily lives. As always, I encourage you to pace yourselves and ask you to make sure you mark these days with both some form of prayer and celebration. They need not be onerous or overtop, it is the sense of occasion and the marking of God’s love that we must not lose. To help you plan or mark your diary or kitchen calendar here are the major feasts in the month of June: Sunday, 7 June, The Most Holy Trinity, Solemnity Sunday, 14 June, Corpus Christi, Solemnity Friday, 19 June, The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Solemnity Wednesday, 24 June, The Birth of St John the Baptist, Solemnity Saturday, 27 June, Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Patron of the Diocese, Solemnity Sunday, 28 June, St Peter & St Paul, Solemnity I wish you a blessed Pentecost day and pray you and your families rejoice in the gifts that God has given to each of you. Finally, I have attached this weekend's words. Our Lady of Walsingham, pray for us. St Joseph, pray for us. St Charles Borromeo, pray for us. With my prayers, Fr Mark McManus |
