Dear Parishioners of St Joseph's & St Charles,

This week our Masses will be:

Saturday, 23 October, at 5:00pm
Sunday, 24 October, at 8:45am & 10:00am

Attending church: as we enter the coughs and colds season I kindly remind you

You MUST NOT come to church if: You are unwell or somebody in your household has coronavirus symptoms, for example a cough or high temperature.

Missionaries of Africa Appeal
The annual diocesan mission appeal will this year be undertaken by the Missionaries of Africa (The White Fathers) at our Masses on the weekend of 30 & 31 October. Fr Hugh Seenan M. Afr. will preach the appeal. Fr Hugh worked for some years as a volunteer teacher (VMM) in Tanzania before beginning studies for the priesthood with the Missionaries of Africa in London and Zambia. He was ordained priest in 1989 and has worked as a missionary in Mozambique, India and Malawi.

The Blessing of Graves & Prayers for the Dead
This will take place in the cemetery following the 10.00am Mass on All Souls Day, Tuesday, 2 November.

Piety Stall 2022 Missals & Christmas Cards
The Piety Stall will start taking orders for the CTS Sunday Missal 2022, this retails at £7.95 and we kindly ask that it be paid for at the time of ordering. Christmas cards will be on sale from next weekend 6 & 7 November. The opening times will be after the Saturday vigil Mass and from 9:15am to 9:55am on Sundays, i.e. between the morning Masses.

St Joseph's Cemetery Maintenance Fund
We kindly ask in November, the month of the Holy Souls, for those with family and friends in St Joseph's cemetery, to make a contribution towards the cost of the upkeep. Thank you for your continuing support and particular thanks to those dedicated parishioners who give of their time and labour to care for our hallowed ground.

November Memorial Dead List 2021 - 2022
The celebration of a holy Mass is the simplest yet also the greatest means by which the Church on earth provides care and assistance for the dead - though we can also assist them in their 'journey' through the purification of purgatory by means of our prayers, offered sufferings and penances, especially when they have indulgences attached to them. Beginning in November we offer Masses for the Parish November Memorial Dead List throughout the year. If you would like to enrol a loved one on the list so that they will be included in these Masses please, write the names of your deceased family, friends and benefactors, and put it, together with your offering, into the offerings box in the church. Alternatively, you can hand it to me or e-mail me the details also. Finally, the Blessing of Graves & Prayers for the Dead will take place in the cemetery following the 10.00am Mass on All Souls Day, Tuesday, 2 November.

Celebrating Marriage
If you are engaged to be married, newly married, married, celebrating a wedding anniversary, or preparing couples for marriage, Bishop Heskett invites you and your family to a Mass to celebrate and give thanks for the gift of marriage at the cathedral on Sunday, 31 October at 12.30pm.

Parking on Sundays
Please be aware that parking outside St Joseph's School (in the zig-zag zone) is not permitted at any time and you could face a penalty if you park there. Apparently, the school has been informed that there have been some complaints from neighbours regarding parking there on Sunday mornings.

Finally, this week's newsletter is here. The next edition will be published on 12 November.

Our Lady of Walsingham, pray for us.
St Joseph, pray for us.
St Charles Borromeo, pray for us.

With my prayers,
Rev. Mark McManus
Parish Priest
