Letter from Fr Mark McManus 24th September

Dear Parishioners of St Joseph's & St Charles,

This week our Masses will be:

Saturday, 25 September, at 5:00pm
Sunday, 26 September, at 8:45am & 10:00am
Monday, 27 September, at 10:00am
Tuesday, 28 September, at 10:00am
Friday, 1 October, at 10:00am

Parking on Sundays
Please be aware that parking outside St Joseph's School (in the zig-zag zone) is not permitted at any time and you could face a penalty if you park there. Apparently, the school has been informed that there have been some complaints from neighbours regarding parking there on Sunday mornings.

Piety Stall items for First Holy Communion
Although somewhat limited due to the ongoing pandemic, our Piety Stall has a variety of First Holy Communion cards & gifts and these will be available after our Masses this weekend (please allow people to leave the church after Holy Communion).

Early Twentieth Century postcard of St Joseph's Presbytery
I have been sent an image from Holland (below) where a family member recently found a postcard written by the then Parish Priest, Fr. Adrian van Roosmalen, to Arnoud van Thiel (1881-1941) at the beginning of 1911. As you can see not too much has changed, though the hall window (to the right of the front door as pictured) lacks the stained glass that was added in 1905 so the photograph was clearly taken prior to then.

Attending church
Face coverings are strongly encouraged.

You MUST NOT come to church if: You are unwell or somebody in your household has coronavirus symptoms, for example a cough or high temperature. Please follow the directions of the stewards.

Finally, this week's newsletter is here.

Our Lady of Walsingham, pray for us.
St Joseph, pray for us.
St Charles Borromeo, pray for us.

With my prayers,
Rev. Mark McManus
Parish Priest
