Letter from Fr Mark McManus 4th March |
Dear Parishioners of St Joseph's & St Charles, |
Our Masses this week are:
Saturday, 5 March, at 12:00pm (after 11:05am Exposition) & 5:00pm
Sunday, 6 March, at 8:45am & 10:00am Monday, 7 March, at 7:15am Tuesday, 8 March, at 10:00am Thursday, 10 March, at 10:00am Friday, 11 March, at 10:00am Humanitarian Aid for Ukraine
It is believed over 1,000,000 people have fled Ukraine into neighbouring countries (mainly to Poland, Hungary, Moldova and Romania), with thousands more having to leave their homes inside Ukraine. Many of those who have fled are women and children, having to leave behind their loved ones. A number of Catholic agencies such as Aid to the Church in Need, CAFOD and Caritas are already at work there or in partnership with local agencies. An offerings box will be in the church this weekend should you wish to support this work.
Lenten CAFOD Fast Day
Is this coming Friday, 11 March. By eating simply and giving generously we can offer help to communities around the world affected by extreme hunger and to children suffering from malnutrition. CAFOD envelopes are available and an offerings box will be in the church next weekend, 12-13 March, or you can visit www.cafod.org.uk/lent. Please remember Gift Aid your donation to increase its value to CAFOD by an additional 25%.
Hallam Safeguarding Training Understanding Mental Capacity
There are 2 sessions on Saturday 5 March and Saturday 23 April, 10.00am-12.30pm (via zoom). This is particularly useful for anyone who visits the sick and elderly at home; however, it is open to all parishioners. Booking: Jo Pearson on 0114 2566453 or jpearson@hallam-diocese.com
Church Cleaning
Can you give some time? If you would like to go on the rota please contact Pauline Williams by phone or text, tel. 07914 969106 or sign-up on the sheet at the back of church by the end of Sunday, 13 March. Thank you.
The Piety Stall
The Piety Stall is once again open and has a selection of items in anticipation of Lent and Easter. Opening times are after the Saturday vigil Mass and from 9:15am to 9:55am on Sundays, i.e. between the morning Masses. If you would like to help with the Sunday morning opening please speak with Cath or Fr M.
Finally, here is this week's newsletter and intentions for prayer. Our Lady of Walsingham, pray for us. St Joseph, pray for us. St Charles Borromeo, pray for us. With my prayers, Rev. Mark McManus Parish Priest |
