Letter from Fr Mark McManus 17th February

Dear Parishioners of St Joseph's & St Charles,

Children's Liturgy
There is no Children's Liturgy this Sunday but it will resume again the following weekend, Sunday, 26 February. Thank you.

For parents: In the past the children brought a small financial offering so that they could collect as a group and learn about Lenten almsgiving. Any monies collected in this way were usually donated to CAFOD or some other worthy cause, e.g. Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice.

Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday, 22 February, marks the beginning of Lent with Masses at 10.00am & 7.00pm. It is a Day of Fasting & Abstinence: everyone aged 14 years and older must abstain from consuming meat, while everyone aged from 18 to 59 must fast, unless exempt (usually for a medical reason). Regardless of age everyone is encouraged to observe the spirit of the day and to assume some form of penance.

Piety Stall
The Piety Stall has a selection of suitable items for Lent and, looking ahead, also cards, etc., in anticipation of Easter.

Syria-Turkey Earthquake Relief Appeal
Finally, if you missed last week's collection for the Syria-Turkey Earthquake Relief Appeal and you want to contribute to it, you can leave an offering in a suitably marked envelope in the collection or with me or our deacon, Simon.

Here are this week's newsletter and intentions.

Our Lady of Walsingham, pray for us.
St Joseph, pray for us.
St Charles Borromeo, pray for us.

With my prayers,
Rev. Mark McManus
Parish Priest
