Letter from Fr Mark McManus 31st March

Dear Parishioners of St Joseph's & St Charles,

I managed to finally get home, some 78 hours late, at 11.30pm on Tuesday night and my luggage, which I had not seen since Saturday morning, thankfully arrived another 16 hours after that. I thank you for your concern and I offer my apologies for any inconvenience my unintended absence may have caused. To me, Handsworth never looked finer...

Retiring Collections
Please note there are two collections this coming week: this weekend for the Easter Flowers and on Good Friday, following long-standing custom, for the upkeep of the Christian shrines in the Holy Land.

Church Heating
Given the cost, Saturday, 1 April, would seem a good day to switch-off the church heating. I know it can still drop cold early in the morning and I shall keep an eye on the early Sunday Mass accordingly but otherwise do be aware it could be a wee bit fresher and dress according to your need. Thank you for your understanding.

The Reading of the Passion
Please note that at the Sunday, 8.45am Mass we will use the shorter form reading of the Passion.

The Veneration of the Cross
The opportunity to make an individual act of veneration to the Cross returns this year but we will do so by bowing and giving reverence rather than the act of kissing.

Finally, here are this week's newsletter, and intentions.

Our Lady of Walsingham, pray for us.
St Joseph, pray for us.
St Charles Borromeo, pray for us.

With my prayers,
Rev. Mark McManus
