Letter from Mgr Mark McManus 30th October

Dear Parishioners of St Joseph's & St Charles,

Church Heating
Last weekend's wet and windy weather saw the church heating being switched on. Please do make sure to close the doors coming into or out of the church as gas is expensive and we should try to get as much benefit and value from our use of it as is possible. To give you some idea of the cost involved, our monthly bill this year for gas used was:
  • January: £910.29 (I was away for 10 days on retreat and then hols and so the presbytery was unheated save for the Frost setting on the system)
  • August: £1.48
Finally, we are classed as a business and therefore also have on top of this a monthly standing charge for gas (including the presbytery) of £53.09.

Catholicism & Halloween
There are lots of good websites (e.g. teachingcatholickids.com) with ideas about how, should you wish, you might mark this event as a family, especially with young children. It can, among many things, offer us an opportunity to reclaim our Catholic heritage, to celebrate Christ's victory over death, to pray for the dead, and to mark the sacrifices and triumphs of the Saints. Our Christian martyrs offer lots of creative costume possibilities! Enjoy, should you wish.

Needy Parishes Fund Second Collection
There will be a retiring collection next weekend, 7 & 8 November, for the diocesan Needy Parishes Fund that helps some of the smaller communities in our diocese.

Here is this week's newsletter, and intercessions.

Our Lady of Walsingham, pray for us.
St Joseph, pray for us.
St Charles Borromeo, pray for us.

With my prayers,
Mgr. Mark McManus
Parish Priest
